Elia Nurvista and Andrés Pereira Paz  are KfW Stiftung grant holders at Berlin’s contemporary arts centre Künstlerhaus Bethanien for the period 2018–2019. Both artists focus on perceptions of otherness and difference, which they approach from very different angles. Although they began their one-year grant programme at different times, they spent six months together in Berlin working alongside each other and exchanging ideas. This joint work gave rise to collaborative projects and a community-based art practice highlighting the factitious nature of such perceptions and exploring their cultural, political and societal implications. Taking their own cultures of origin as examples, Elia Nurvista and Andrés Pereira Paz add their voice to society’s attempts to come to terms with the legacy of colonialism and to test alternative narratives about globalized world history.
