Hygiene Measures

Thurs., 18.11.2021, 6 p.m.

With "Musikzimmer", KfW Stiftung is creating a stage for a wide variety of musical groups and initiatives from the Rhine-Main region. In the historic ambience of Villa 102, the audience is not only offered an insight into the diverse musical culture of the region, but also the opportunity for exchange: the musicians do not limit themselves to the music, but also enter into dialogue with the audience.

The opening concert on 18 November 2021 will be given by the ensemble "Elià", moderated by Tabea Dupree. The four-member ensemble with Andrés Rosales (guitar), Eleanna Pitsikaki (kanun), Johanna-Leonore Dahlhoff (flute) and Youssef Laktina (percussion) will take up the musical traditions of the ensemble members and perform, among other things, genre-spanning original compositions with Latin American and Arabic influences as well as arrangements of traditional songs from the Mediterranean region.

Elià is one of nine transcultural ensembles of Bridges - Music Connects. The initiative has been bringing together musicians with and without a history of flight and migration since the beginning of 2016 and has since played around 400 concerts in their home countries and abroad. The members perform in orchestra and ensemble formations that are characterised by the interplay of instruments from the Orient, the Occident, the Far East and Latin America, and include the musical cultural backgrounds of the participants. Concert activities range from refugee shelters to the Alte Oper Frankfurt to the German government and from concert series in Frankfurt venues and museums to international festivals in Italy and Uzbekistan.

Bridges - Music Connects has participated in the KfW Stiftung's "ANKOMMER.Perspektive Deutschland" programme and was awarded the Special Impact Award in 2018 and "The Power of the Arts" in 2019. The debut album "Identigration" by the Bridges Chamber Orchestra was released in co-production with hr2-kultur and received the German Record Critics' Award 2/2021 in the category Grenzgänge. All four musicians of Elià are also members of the Bridges Chamber Orchestra.

You can register for the opening concert here.
